GARDEN ROUTE & EASTERN CAPE
On the Cape's east coast,  the Garden Route awaits  you - a visual feast of  forests, rivers, beaches,  cliffs and lagoons, with  plenty of excellent resorts  from which to enjoy it all.  Prefaced by unspoiled  Stillbaai to the south, and  starting with historic Mossel bay, the garden Route is the picturesque, evergreen stretch of holiday  heaven where the N2 highway follows the coastline fairly closely. Taking in the tranquil settlement of  Hartenbos, and passing through George (the chief business town on the  route), you will crest Kaaiman's Pass to be met by the unforgettable  sight of the Wilderness beaches stretching  out below. Between here and Knysna,  further north, with the mauve Outeniquas  as a backdrop, is the unique "Lakes  District" a system the mauve Outeniquas as  a backdrop, is the unique "Lakes District" a  system of fresh and salt water lakes a  seagull's cry from  the ocean, and home to  a wealth of bird life.  Thanks to stringent conservation measures, this unique environment can be enjoyed in all its unspoilt glory  by visitors to Sedgefield and other nearby resorts.   Knysna, where resorts dotted around the vast Knysna Lagoon have failed to disturb its tanquil beauty, is  a delight. North of Knysna lies Plettenberg Bay, holiday haunt of the rich and famous. Leave "Plett" and  you enter the Eastern Cape proper where delightful holiday towns like Jeffreys Bay, Port Alfred and  Beacon Bay outside East London are the  ideal bases from which to explore the coast and country areas.  The Eastern Cape's eastern seaboard and interior make for an unforgettable holiday.
